Casting Call: Part 4

Radcliff Settle, MD

Cliff is an early precursor of Integrity Toys’ Tariq.  I paid $5 for him at the May 5th doll show because he was wearing a snazzy pin-striped suit. I decided he was more of a serious type than a gangster, however so he is modeling a lab coat that I got from the same seller for .20 cents.

I named Cliff after my great grandfather.  They both graduated from Meharry Medical College.

The Bodyguards

If you have business with the boss, you'll have to get past Pat and Mike first.  Pat is the studious type.

The boss is paying his way through law school.  Mike is a ladies' man.

He insisted on the custom made fedoras which took the wardrobe department several weeks to complete.  These two were originally dressed in the hazmat and astronaut suits featured in "Casting Call:  Part 2."  One of the pinstriped suits was on Cliff.  The other was on a creepy looking G.I. Joe figure with a steel head.  Since the suits were designed for G.I. Joe instead of Ken, the sleeves are large enough to accommodate action figure hands.

Jerry Flanagan

In this scene the twins are working as bodyguards for mob boss, Jerry Flanagan, another one of the Power Team figures I found in a bargain bin at the May 20th doll show.

Jerry was nude except for these stylish wing-tip oxfords:

It's nice for the Power Team guys to have some options besides combat boots.

I was a little disconcerted that Jerry did not have hands but that turned out to be a blessing since the black shirt he is wearing has close fitting cuffs that would never have fit over action figure fists.

I got the jacket for $1 at the May 20th doll show.  Fortunately, I had an extra pair of the molded black glove hands for him to put on after he changed out of the costume.

Antonio Gutierrez

Imagine having this fellow turn up on your doorstep for a blind date!

He is the best of the five Power Team figures I purchased at the May 20th doll show.  He was the only note of color in that bin.

Better still, not only does he have hands, they are molded in a gently curved position that will fit through the sleeves of Ken fashions.  Thus he got to wear the tuxedo I bought at the May 5th doll show.

The last casting call will feature ladies in formal gowns that I acquired at the May 20th doll show.  They are all beaming "pick me!" vibes at Antonio but I think he has already spotted Lupe.

    1. Hi Debbie,

My Froggy Stuff did a tutorial on making fedoras a few weeks ago. I don't have her gift for cutting freehand so it took me several tries to draft a workable pattern. It might be a good idea to do a series of hat tutorials down the road, though.

  3. Hello, Max!

That is one sharp suit your Jerry Flanagan is wearing. The henchmen on either side accessorize well with it, ;-D

Would be cool to have a reference/guide book to the Integrity playscale dolls. Looking at your Cliff - I wonder if he could be Integrity's Jordan or MiKelman's Dominic? Either way, he is a cutie, too, and I agree, he doesn't look like a thug.

    1. Hi D7ana,

Funny comment about the henchmen as accessories. I looked at your photo and I think that Cliff is an Integrity Toys Jordan. At the May 20th doll show there was a white Jordan in the bin with all the Power Team guys I bought. He might have been useful for a _Puddinhead Wilson_ type story but he had a creepy albino look so I left him in the bin. As much as we complain about black dolls that are just caramel colored version of the mold created for the white doll, I saw that white dolls cast from molds created for black dolls look weird too.

    1. Hi Dollz4Moi,

Thanks for identifying the bodyguards. Are the Ultra Corps figures from the same company as the Power Team guys?

    2. They may be. I think Ultra Corps was made by Lanard Toys but I may be wrong. If Power Team is from Lanard then yes they are..LOL

    1. Hi Frannie,

How nice to have another Dollar Tree near your house. I always have to plan a special trip to go to Dollar Tree but that might be a good thing because I would spend too much money if I could go there all the time.

  6. You found a lot of great characters at the doll show! Jerry Flannagan kind of looks like Bruce Willis.

    2. Hi Roxanne and Debbie,

Once I found a photo of Bruce Willis with hair, I could see the resemblance around the eyes.

  7. These guys are awesome! I love the gangsters and the boss. The Untouchables is using playing on my TV in the middle of the night. Antonio is a handsome devil! Are you still leary to pop off the hands of the PT guys? They can all fit most of the Ken fashions with the hands removed.

    1. Hi Vanessa,

Glad you like Antonio and the gangsters. I am still leery of removing the PT guys hands. I am afraid they will break. Since we don't have enough normal hands to go around, breaking one would be a major blow. I'm trying to figure out how I could make some hands for them out of salt dough :-)

    2. Trust me, you are not going to break the PowerTeam hands. They were built for removing. Not a week goes by without me removing Powerteam hands. I've been doing it over a year now and I've never broken one. I have been buying extra hands from Monkey Depot for under $3 a pair. The black hands aren't always available, but they do show up. There are many other companies that sell hands, too. Eventually all of my guys will have their own hands. Email me if you would like more info.
