Fashion Madness Men

For the last few days, Just Jay  has been teasing us with boxed photos of the long-awaited Fashion Madness men.  This weekend I was fortunate enough to find them at a Walmart in Stockbridge, GA and had no qualms about plunking down my money for Night Out T.J.

and Everyday Dwayne.

The face mold somewhat resembles Ryan McDaniel, the actor who plays Kenya's boyfriend, T.J.

Jonathan McDaniel plays T.J.'s younger cousin, Dwayne.  Both dolls share the same face mold, but Dwayne has flocked hair.

Although their chiseled torsos and molded on briefs are the same, T.J.'s legs are longer than Dwayne's so he stands taller.

Yet both cousins can wear Ken fashions.

Their slim, aristocratic feet fit most male fashion doll shoes.  While their ankles are not articulated, their knee joints pivot, which allows for more poseability.

Thus the fellows can indulge in a friendly game of hoops.  Here T.J. sports a Justin Bieber outfit,

while Dwayne works a One Direction ensemble.

Long-legged T.J. spanked booty again so Dwayne takes his ball and heads home.

T.J. and Dwayne have wider shoulders than the One Direction guys and could not wriggle into most of their shirts so I used this Ken shirt which opens all the way down the back.

Later that evening, T.J. and Dwayne take Kenya's BFF, Denise out for her birthday.

The $10 versions of Denise available at Walmart don't have the full articulation of the first wave Kenya dolls.

It looks like Denise has nevertheless found an admirer.  Power Team figures can wear Dwayne's clothes.

-- but clothes sized for T.J.'s long limbs make it look like Mattel sent a boy to do a man's job.

The clothes are made of quality fabrics with neat stitching.

Still the big question is, how will our 1:6 scale ladies like these big-headed brothers?

Trichelle doesn't seem to mind Dwayne's over-sized endowments at all.

  3. Great post. I'm glad to see that at least the knees are articulated. That's a big help. I'm surprised they made the men two different sizes. Makes it a little difficult for them to completely share clothes. I really like TJ and plan on adding him to the mix.

  4. Wonder why they gave the guys better knee joints than Kenya, but no elbows? Seems like an odd choice to me. I like that they made them different heights, though. Thanks for posting pics!

  5. Congratulations on your new dolls! Thanks for sharing the clothes they can wear and the difference between the two guys. Maybe Dwayne's fashions can be shared with the Integrity Toys' Fashion Royalty guys :-)

  6. Both guys are pretty cool! I just dont like it when they have those gianormous heads! Their articulation abilities are good enough if they can play basketball and dance with the ladies. LOL

  7. Hello from Spain: I really like your two new guys. They are very trendy. In my country they are not for sale in stores. I like pictures of them playing basketball and the girl. Keep in touch

  8. Hi all,

Hope you had a great Labor Day weekend. The Family Dollar stores in my area had so many Kenya dolls left over that the clearance prices went as low as $7.50 from $20. I was afraid Kenya would be pulled from the market but it looks like Walmart was willing to take a chance on them. I think the company gave up some of the articulation and simplified the outfits to get the price points down to a more affordable level. I have an extra articulated Kenya so I will be upgrading Denise to that body.

This weekend I went to several other Walmarts and was gratified to find T.J. and Dwayne. T.J. is taller because he is supposed to be older than Dwayne. D7ana you may be right about T.J. being able to share clothes with Integrity Toys' Fashion Royalty men. Unfortunately I don't own any of them so I was not able to verify whether this is the case or not.

Thank you all for your comments!

  9. Ah, so T.J. is taller than Dwayne. Another interesting fact. I love how informative your Kenya posts are. I'll see when the guys reach Philly and/or I see them in vinyl, if they might fit the FR fellows.

    Thanks for sharing this information!

  10. "Trichelle doesn't seem to mind Dwayne's over-sized endowments at all."

That made me giggle like a school girl, lol! Anyway, very informative post! I saw these at my local but I didn't buy any. I know it's cheaper to produce but articulating legs and not arms is just as annoying as Mattel articulating arms but not legs.

I will have to get some of these outfits when and if they get to clearance prices. I don't mind big heads myself, but the lack of full articulation makes these clearance items for me price wise.

    Thanks for sharing!

    1. Hi Muff,

The limited articulation is a disappointment but it is so rare to get new black male face molds that I can live with the limited range of motion.

  11. Wonderful post, Paulette! For some reason this post was not added to my new blogs feed. I would have missed it had I not read D7ana's most recent post about the new additions to the Fashion Madness Kenya family. Her post mentions yours.

I am delighted to see the dolls out of the box. It is also nice to see that someone appreciates the company's efforts to create a diversified AA line of playscale dolls (even if they are not fully articulated and perhaps do not measure up to other playscale dolls).

I was waiting to see them in person before deciding whether or not I would purchase. Based on what I have seen here, I definitely will purchase at least one of each of these new characters. I won't go all gung-ho like I did with Fashion Madness Kenya, but I will get one of each.

    Thanks again!

    1. Hi Debbie,

I think that my blog has been missing the new blogs feed for some time now. I'm glad you found out about it anyway. The One Direction guys have my favorite male fashions at the moment and the articulation on most of those dolls is no better than these Fashion Madness men. I also bought a slew of Disney Princes this summer for their outfits and they didn't have articulation either. I didn't find the other Fashion Madness male ensembles as compelling as the two I purchased because they are very similar to Justin Bieber outfits I already have, but the clothes would be well-made, useful additions to any wardrobe.
